Join us for our skills and knowledge workshop exploring skills and careers in sustainability, focused on driving change through policy-making, campaigning, and community-building.

The workshop will explore effective storytelling and communications to engage and motivate action in response to the climate crisis.

What we'll cover:

Sustainability 101 with Louisa Harris, who lectures in Sustainable Business at Cambridge University's Institute of Sustainable Leadership and Nottingham University MBA's Responsible Business Week. A mini workshop to give you an overview of key sustainability challenges and the role businesses need to play in shaping a more sustainable future and driving climate action.


Meet the experts – careers in sustainability

Meet the experts over tea and cake. Hear from Thanet-based professionals who are working in sustainability, take part in a Q&A, hear more about what their work involves and how to pursue a career in sustainability.

You will hear from:

  • Rachel Cox, Climate Change Project Coordinator, Thanet District Council

  • Sebastian Cox, Regenerative designer, craftsman and environmentalist

  • Rosanagh Fuller, CEO, Power of Women Thanet

  • Sarah Whiting-Blowers, Producer, Power of Women Thanet

  • Councillor Rob Yates, Margate Central Ward, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Climate Change


Green Skills with Jessica Rose, Founder of Co-relate and Plastic Free Thanet. A workshop to understand green skills and the transferable skills you already have and can bring to a sustainability career and a chance to explore Business in the Community's Green Skills Roadmap.


Design your own career and action plan. A practical and interactive workshop to explore how you want to make a difference in your work. Together we'll come up with an action plan including skills you want to build and practical actions to take after the workshop.


Tour of the Sebastian Cox workshop, studio and showroom. The workshop at Marine Studios will be followed by a tour of the Sebastian Cox workshop, studio and showroom on Union Crescent. Attendees will access insights into the design and making of heirloom furniture from a nature-first perspective, as well as the creation of woodlands and wild lands rich in biodiversity and soaking up CO2.


More details

  • This workshop is open to anyone aged between 16–25.

  • There is no dress code. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and shoes you are happy to wear for a short walk.

  • Refreshments, snacks and a light lunch will be available.

  • No need to bring anything with you, we will provide pens and paper. It might be useful to bring your own notebook, if you like.

  • You are welcome to bring friends or a parent/ carer if that would make you feel more comfortable. Just let us know.
