According to the DCMS, the creative economy employs a lower proportion of women than the broader UK economy, with only 37.1% of jobs in the creative industries filled by women compared to 46.9% in the UK
as a whole
. The disparity is even more pronounced in leadership roles, with overwhelmingly male creative directors (96.4% in 2008). A survey by the Young Creative Council
in
2016 revealed that 88% of young female creatives feel they lack role models, and 70% have never worked with a female creative director or executive creative director. This program
aims to address
these gaps by empowering young women and providing strong female role models in the creative industries.
