2024 POW Thanet Trustee.

Power of Women Thanet (POW) is looking for a new Trustee to join our small but mighty charity from July 2024 onwards.

Who is POW, and what do we do?

Our mission is to provide access to the arts and creativity to all Thanet community members, especially women, girls, and non-binary people in all their diversity. Our Strategic Objectives are:

  1. Co-design and deliver powerful creative programming that advances gender equality through meaningful partnerships

  2. Raise the profile of Thanet as a location where the power of the arts and creativity can improve gender equality

  3. Bring gender equality-focussed creative content to communities and individuals that have been historically underserved

e celebrate creativity that champions gender equality across Thanet through an annual arts festival to celebrate International Women’s Day (next is March 2025), and engagement programmes with children, young people and local community groups.

Though we are a small team we reach 20,000 participants annually and are proud of our impact on our community. Read more here.

Why now?.

March 2025 is our 10th anniversary and with a new organisational strategy we want to ensure it is impactful and sustainable, setting us up for another ten years of activism. We are looking for a Trustee who can support us in the next exciting phase of our development.

What does the Board of Trustees do?.

The Board is made up of dedicated individuals who meet every two months around Thanet (or virtually), reading papers in advance so they can give their opinions and perspectives and ask questions of the senior staff to review organisational plans and help support its development.

The role of the Board is to:

  • Be accountable for the strategic direction of POW

  • Protect the financial stability of the organisation

  • Ensure compliance with governance legislation and strive for best practice

  • Safeguard the reputation and values of POW

  • Guide and test the decision-making of the senior staff

If you are unsure what these activities mean or require of you, our current Trustees would be happy to have a short phone-call to chat through any questions. Please email rosanagh@powthanet.com if you would like us to set up a call before the application deadline.

We want our Board to represent our local community, so if you have never been a Trustee before but think you have the skills below, please do apply - many of our current Trustees were new to the role when they started in January 2023 so it’s a very welcoming environment. We will provide training and development to support you.

  • Are 55+ years old

You must:

  • Have knowledge and understanding of local community issues in and around Thanet

  • Want to make the work of POW accessible and engaging for all members of the community, particularly those who are excluded from the arts through circumstance

  • Be able to commit to this role for the next 3 years

  • Live in Thanet (or East Kent)

You may have career, experience or skills in one or more of the following:

  • Practising artist or creative professional

  • Educator or experience working with children and/or young people

  • Business

  • Networks with access to corporates and high-net worth individuals

We also welcome applications from individuals who don’t see their experience or skills reflected in the above list. If you are convinced by the power of feminism and the arts to enrich society, and believe you could make an active contribution to our long-range strategic thinking at this time, we would like to hear from you.

How to apply?.
