The idea for POW! came to me after I realised nothing was happening in Thanet to celebrate International Women’s Day, so I put out a call on Facebook asking anyone who was interested to come to a meeting. More than 20 women came to share ideas and suggestions which were captured and the room filled with palpable vibrant energy. Since then, POW has grown exponentially. I’ve met and worked with so many wonderful, creative women and their positive responses has been hugely motivating.”

— Christina Clark-McQuaid, Founder of POW Thanet

This exhibition celebrates a Decade of POW Thanet and the women who have championed gender equality and shaped the creative landscape here in Thanet.

This is also the beginnings of a project to archive POW’s history into a resource.

As the charity has grown and changed over the past 10 years, a lot has been lost, scattered around Thanet in boxes & hard drives. We realised that if we don’t act fast, we risk losing the history of this social justice movement and the impact it’s had on our community.

Women’s public history is hugely underrepresented in history. We want to change that, starting here in Thanet.
