POW! Youth are presenting creative challenges, activities, and opportunities in the arts for young people

For 2021, POW! Thanet are launching a new branch for young people - POW! Youth!

Our 2020 festival reached over 5,400 people, which was a phenomenal success considering many events were cancelled due to Covid. However our team were not satisfied by the fact that a minority of our audience was 18 - 25 years old.

An inspiring group of young women from South East Kent responded to our open call in Summer 2020 and have helped us develop 'POW! Youth' a whole programme aimed at and inspired by young people.

Despite the pandemic, our POW! Youth team have already had regular Zoom discussion sessions planning what the future for POW! Youth could hold. They have set up an Instagram account dedicated to reaching young people with creative opportunities in the arts from POW! and more. Follow them at @powyouthanet

Our POW! Youth team are planning an open call for feminist artworks by 18 - 25 year olds, and a photography competition - More details to be announced soon!

As a team, POW! are passionate about reaching diverse audiences, and catering for all Thanet residents. We believe strongly in Arts Council England's statement about Children and Young People, which says: "Involvement with arts and culture is crucial to imagination, self-expression and creativity in young people. It also develops the skills that fuel the success of the UK’s creative industries, and that will result in the next generation of creative talent across the country" (Arts Council England, 2021).

POW! Youth is about supporting young people in Thanet and the wider Kent area to devise, programme and run events for young people, in line with POW!'s values of celebrating women and girls. POW! Youth provides work experience opportunities, creative outlets, and inspiring experiences.
