Megan Metcalf is an intuitive expressive artist based in Margate whose inspiration comes from her mindful approach to the here and now. She documents the here and now with live reportage style illustration as well as creating pieces using mixed media and the environment she finds herself in.
Her work and approach is fresh and interesting, truthful and tender. She sees her natural habitat as her studio (be that a forest or a Cliftonville Street) and loves to integrate this idea of adapting to different territories into her practice.
As her practice matures she is working in an increasingly socially engaged way, with a real life and real time approach. Working with different community groups and organisations within Kent she explores art with people of all walks of life in a playful yet witty and empowering way.
She is very proud of her role as Artist in residence at Palm Bay Primary School where she explores different ideas across all age groups and with the teaching staff too. She has links with projects in Margate at Resort Studios and Arts In Ramsgate where she uses her practice to help to ground herself and others in the here and now. She has an unorthodox approach to her practice and a wild and vivid imagination. This results in soulful, intriguing and inspired projects.
Megan endeavours to learn and to teach ways of creating that provide respite and joy in a world which can be overwhelming at times.. Her work is about real life not perfection, it’s about celebrating life and its imperfections. She tries not to take life too seriously and loves to make people chuckle.
